The Deadly Diesel Secret

In 2014, transportation contributed more than half of the carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides, and almost a quarter of the hydrocarbons emitted from our air. These carcinogenic fumes, as a result of diesel gas are now believed to directly contribute to not only devastating environmental issues but have been linked to multiple types of cancer and developmental problems in children.

A study conducted by the World Health Organisation (WHO), have directly linked emissions from fossil fuels, particularly diesel, to not only lung but bladder cancer. A second study, also by WHO, recently confirmed the dramatically increased risk of autism, schizophrenia and other conditions in children as a result of exposure to these pollutants.

In addition to the significant health risks, diesel emissions are responsible for catastrophic environmental issues. Researchers from the University of Southampton have recently discovered a connection between the components of diesel exhaust and a change in the behaviour of bees. In a nutshell, emissions are responsible for altering the odour of fragrant flowers, so much so that bees have not been able to effectively locate their food sources.

This does not only affect the pollination of fragrant flowers but also the greater food bowl that relies on bees to pollinate food crops that ensure our own survival. Global cases of bee decline in Australia, the US, UK and Eastern Europe confirm the widespread effects of ecological disruption to essential bee colonies. Put simply, if the bees go, so do we.

One device that is leading the charge in reducing these emissions is Regenodrive from HRDS Technologies. With the undeniable environmental and health benefits that result from this technology fleet owners now have the opportunity to make a major contribution to the development of a cleaner environment.

An Explanation of the major pollutants from motor vehicles include:

  • Particulate matter (PM) - which is the particles of soot and metals that give smog its murky colour

  • Hydrocarbons (HC) - at ground level this gas irritates the respiratory system and is the primary ingredient in smog

  • Nitrogen oxide (NOx) - known to cause lung irritation and weaken the body's defence against diseases.

  • Carbon monoxide (CO) - this odourless and poisonous gas is emitted from cars and trucks and when inhaled, blocks oxygen from the brain, heart and other vital organs. Unborn children and people with chronic illnesses are especially susceptible to its effects.

  • Sulphur dioxide (SO2) poses the greatest risk to children and is caused by burning sulphur containing fuels, especially diesel.

In addition to many other Greenhouse Gases and other toxic chemicals.

Advantages of the Regenodrive system:

  • Typically 25% - 35% fuel reduction

  • Carbon dioxide reduction of 25% - 35% + Particulates and NOx

  • Continued vehicle operation if system should fail

  • Minimal training required for fleet operator

  • Driver friendly and reduces driver fatigue

  • No fundamental change to vehicle driveline

  • Carbon trading or trade off potential

  • Reduced environmental impact

The competitive advantage of Regenodrive over other devices, in addition to the fuel and CO2 savings, is the simplicity of the design. Regenodrive is light and easy to package with no compromise on power and efficiency. It can be retrofitted or applied during vehicle manufacture.

Through clean vehicle and fuel technologies we can significantly reduce air pollution from all forms of road transport saving the planet in the process.
